Helping Women in Business

Dress for Home Business Success

Ladies, take a look at the women in the corporate world. They dress the part. While our “offices” are not on the 48th floor of a high rise building, we still need to look like the business women we are or the ones we are striving to become. Does that mean that we need to wear our Sunday best or business suits all the time? No. But it does mean that we need to pay close attention to our appearance.
What is the best possible way to accomplish that with little or no income? Pray! One of our Biblical role models had it going on. “She makes coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple.” (Proverbs 31:22) The Lord, as your provider, knows what you need before you even ask. However, it is a good thing to pray about it. Take advantage of garage sales, thrift shops, and hand-me-downs.
We all have and need days where comfy, casual is the rule. However, most days we need to get up and dress for the day as if we were going to a job outside the home. I have found that I am more productive at home and in my business if I am dressed presentably.
I never know when I might need to run out the door to meet a client or pick up supplies for the business. A business woman would never meet a customer in her jammies and pink fuzzy slippers. She would wear appropriate business clothing.
Is your outfit clean? Is your shirt missing buttons? Zippers that do not work need to be replaced. Hook and eyes should be stitched on and used. “Sloppy” is not in the business woman’s vocabulary. Sloppy is for your day off. Paint and grubby clothing are for painting and other work where one would get dirty.
Hair that looks like a bird’s nest warmed over is not acceptable. Clean and styled hair is appropriate. Choose a style that is suitable for your tastes and amount of time you have available each day. Brush those pearly white teeth. Please add a smile.
I would recommend several outfits that are easily interchangeable with other pieces. Hem lengths should be modest. Classic shoes that are comfortable yet semi-dressy should match many different clothing combinations. Solid colored garments are easily mixed and matched with scarves, belts, and colorful tops. It is slick to wear a simple outfit at home and throw on a fun scarf and jacket if necessary when heading out the door. It only takes about 60 seconds to do that and look business savvy when meeting a customer. On super busy days, I keep my scarf, jacket, and dress shoes beside my purse. Upon arriving home, the jacket, scarf, and dress shoes are set aside for simple shoes and a sweater.
Gals, we should strive to look like a business woman whether we currently own a business or will be starting one in the near future. Business deals are made and lost by first appearances.

      Thank you Karen,
The amount my little business will give is contingent upon sales. So far there are no sales this month. When the Lord sells the book, then my customers and this little business will help other women. Who knows how much that will be.
